Mostly I get asked how to get glowing skin or what I use so that I have nice glowing skin. Not only keeping up a healthy diet and workout adds a huge role in your overall look, for me, but there were also a few steps that literally turn my dry, dull and dehydrated skin into a nice glowing and radiant complexion I always dreamed of.
Long before starting blogging I always had a very simple one-step cleansing along with a moisturizer as a morning skincare ritual to take me through my day. Shortly after giving birth to my second child and in my late 20 I noticed my skin was looking dull and dehydrated but never paid attention (it still looked fine to me). Yet once I entered my 30’s I found I was missing something and I knew my skin needed more as I was ageing. Just right at that time, I decided to get myself to a strict skincare regimen day and night.
Yet few steps that were a game changer on my skin rituals are as follows.
Double Cleansing
This is one of the best ways to really remove any makeup residue. Skin breathes with clean skin and cleansing balms and oils are the best way to start with. This step has changed how I cleansed my skin and how fresh it felt afterwards. If you feel lazy, try using a nice Micellar Water twice to remove most parts of your makeup or other pollution buildup before going to bed, even if you’re only wearing sunscreen. One of my favourite Micellar Waters that I can’t live without is La Prairie’s Crystal Micellar Water Eyes & Face and Bioderma Sensibio H2O. I personally love the Eve Lom Balm, Supreme Balm Cleanser from La Prairie and Beautycounter Counter+ Lotus Glow Cleansing Balm as my options from Balm cleansers and Shu Uemura Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil, Dior Hydra Life Oil To Milk Makeup Removing Cleanser and Eve Lom Cleansing Oil Capsules as my oil cleansers.
I absolutely love Cle de Peau Beaute’s Softening Cleansing Foam (nothing feels as soft as this cleanser on complexion), Fresh Beauty’s Soy Makeup Removing Face Wash and It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser is the second step of cleansing.
Layering skincare
Products from thinnest to thickest. It really doesn’t matter how many products you layer, you should know how to layer your skincare products. Here are a few steps for your guide:
- Cleanser
- Facial Mist
- Pre-essence lotion (dry and combination skin) or Toner (normal to oily skin)
- Serum (face & eye)
- Moisturizer (face & eye)
- Lip Balm
- SPF
Eye Cream or Eye Serum
This is one of the steps that you can’t forget or ignore, take an extra step for under eye area to make sure those lines look soft and smooth. Even on the days, I get lazy during my nightly skincare routine, I don’t skip on my eye cream. I have a full post of my favourite Eye products here where it will take you to a more detailed review on different eye moisturizers with a different price points, yet super effective.
Pre Lotions and Essences
These are your first step that really helps your skin to deeply get hydrated. I think everyone with any kind of skin texture should add this step to their skincare routine. I absolutely love La Prairie’s Platinum Life Lotion and Cle de Peau’s Hydro-Softening Lotion as they’re highly hydrating yet Fresh Beauty’s Kombucha Antioxidant Facial Treatment Essence, Estee Lauder’s Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion are quite amazing as well. These ones are more hydrating ones that are perfect for dry skin yet if you have oily skin I find Rose & Hyaluronic Acid Deep Hydration Toner from Fresh Beauty and Watermelon Glow PHA +BHA Pore-Tight Toner from Glow Recipe are the best options.
Vitamin C Serum
Adding a Vitamin C to your daily skincare routine especially at night time. It really makes a huge difference in your overall look of skin. It helps skin to revitalize yet at the same time brightens and tightens the skin over time. Recently I tried the Monat C Radiance Illuminating Serum and YSL Pure Shots Light Up Brightening Serum which I found are some of the best Vitamin C serum in the market. I also love Estee Lauder’s Perfectionist Pro Rapid Brightening Treatment which I find slightly intense but it’s perfect for a nightly skincare routine.
Facial Oils
Oils in your nightly skincare routine are one of the best things you can do to your dehydrated and dry skin. You can literally go with your facial mist and top it with a nice hydrating facial oil for your nightly routine and you don’t see any trace of dryness on your skin the next day. Although summer days seem to look humid yet spending time indoor in AC air adds dryness to the skin, adding lightweight facial oils like Laura Mercier Nourishing Rose Oil and Fresh Rose Deep Hydrating Oil-Infused Serum is the way to keep it well hydrated. I also love the Guerlain Abeille Royale Youth Watery Anti-Aging Oil which is one of the best facial oils in the market.
I hope this guide will help you on what you should mostly focus on when it comes to skincare and some skincare products depending on your skin texture. For nice well hydrated and glowing skin you really need to put out effort religiously. I will keep updating you all here with anything new I get to discover in the future.
