Latest from Make Up For Ever is the Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation (C$48 for 0.38 oz/11 g). This is a full coverage powder foundation that comes in 30 different shades to please every one. I was sent the shade Medium Beige (R370) for review which was not a good match for my skin, although the shade was picked up by myself but I went a little too dark. I wanted to go a bit dark since I do get a bit darker during the summer but it went too dark. I would highly suggest to make sure to get matched in person because the shade range is huge and it’s really hard to pick a shade easily online.
The Make Up For Ever powder foundation comes in a triangle mirrored compact. It comes with a very unique sponge applicator that is placed at the side of the compact. The sponge itself is interesting because it has two different textures, one side is more fluffy and the other side is a spongy texture, where each side offers different coverage. The fluffy side offer sheer to medium coverage with a very natural finish where the sponge side really gives that full coverage look. I personally loved applying it with a nice fluffy powder brush where it really gives a seamless finish while I used the sponge applicator for touch ups.
The powder is designed for all skin textures even dry which made me supper happy where most of the times I can’t wear powder foundation due to dryness. I’m extremely picky when it comes to powder foundation and powders in general. Many end up looking cakey, emphasize lines (especially around my eyes) and feels dry on skin. Powder foundations are often designed to be worn alone instead of liquid or cream foundation but I almost always use my powder foundations as on the go touch up/ setting powder. At the moment my favorite includes which is an absolutely amazing powder foundation that I can wear it on its own and . They both cover imperfections, stays in put and are full coverage. The Make Up For Ever Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation by comparison is quite lighter in texture while still offers medium buildable coverage. You can really control the coverage.
I tested this Blurring Powder Foundation alone and on top of the foundation and both ways it applies beautifully. When I used alone I found it wears really well with a good moisturizer or a booster if you have a dry skin like me. I have been using the Ultra HD Booster and Prep+Prime Fix setting spray from MAC. I found it covers the skin nicely and even out the complexion. It does have a blurring effect and looks seamless on skin. There was no caking or emphasizing the pores. I did last all day with a minimal touch-ups.
At the end after testing this for the past few weeks and I give this a huge thumbs up. I didn’t feel dry on skin which is huge for me, no irritation nor clogged pores. The shade was not a perfect match but I did wore it for couple of days to see how it works or worth to order my shade. Right now Soft Sand is a perfect shade that matches my skin all year-long, I would definitely go and get myself one, plus Medium Beige works great as a bronzer for me. There are quite huge shade range where it’s very tricky to pick a perfect shade for your skin tone. I would highly suggest to get it in person and once you get your color matched this really becomes a game changer in your makeup routine. It lasts all day and with a soft velvet finish skin.
