Current Hair Routine – Best Hair Masks & Treatments for Shiny Hair

I have some new hair tries and new discoveries this season. Most of these are new launches + some that I just discovered and have been loving for my hair texture. My hair colour and highlights are growing out plus I do need a new toner treatment soon. But I feel my colour looks absolutely fine and the highlight becomes more like an ombre. I wanted to stay away from highlights this year I want to keep with my natural dark brown hair colour for the fall-winter season. I get my hair cut every 4-5 months and this time I went with just below shoulder-length layers at the back and chin-length layers at the front.

I do rotate my haircare products more frequently depending on the weather and how my hair feels and looks. I do have a very minimal styling process that doesn’t weigh down my hair. Just a little acknowledgment on my hair texture, it is dry and wavy. I try to cut down my hair washing to a minimum of 1-2X a week with a weekly dose of hair masks and hair oil massage before wash day every other time. For the past year, I have been enhancing my wavy-curly hair more often and it seems like my hair looks healthier than ever. I have a fully comprehensive post on my favourite hair care products plus tips on how to keep scalp and hair healthy is here.

I have my favourite current hair care products listed below but I wanted to mention that I don’t use them all at once – depending on how my hair feels or I style it (curly or straight) I use them accordingly.

Shampoos, Masks & Sculp Treatments

For my curly/wavy dry hair it’s hard to find a shampoo that works well all the time. My go-to shampoos for my curly days have been the Moroccan Oil Shampoo Curly Enhancing + the Tresemme Curly Hydrated Hair Shampoo and both work incredibly to define my curls. For days I style, I love to use the Oribe – Gold Lust Repair & Restore Shampoo which makes my hair look and feel extra yet recently I have been introduced to the Pantene Hydrating Glow with baobab Essence Shampoo + its Hydrating Glow thirsty Ends Milk to water Serum which been performing really good to my hair thick and heavy hair as well as Noor’s soft hair lately. We both have been really impressed with this new formula. They do have their curl collection which is on my radar.

For the first time, I got to try the Christophe Ronin Purifying Scalp Scrub with Sea Salt and it has surprised me in its performance. Although I have dry hair yet this mask lathers up like shampoo that deeply purifies scalp and hair and leaves hair with an exceptional aroma. I have kept touching and smiling my hair after its application. It’s designed for all hair textures and I think every lady should have this treatment on their shower counter especially if you have oily hair. I’ve been using this once a month and would recommend the same applies if you have dry hair and sculpt.

Hair Masks does wonders for my hair so I get to test and try what comes new in the market. I try to keep up with leave-in deep treatment masks 1-2X a month to boost my hair’s hydration levels. A few hair masks that I recently got to try are the Absolue Keratine and Karite Nutri masks from Furterer Paris. Both performed quite amazing on my hair, and here are the details.

  • KARITÉ NUTRI Intense Nourising Mask for very dy hair, it works great to use it just right after shampooing instead of your condistioner. It adds hydration and moisture to the hair without weighing it down. I’ve been using it for my curly hair days and it adds a nice shine to the hair.
  • ABSOLUE KÉRATINE Ultimate Reparing Mask desinged for fine to medium to think hair. Its a new formula that been recently launched and its desinged to repair demage hair. It detangls, protects, and adds shine without being weighed down. You can use this once a month or tiwce to bring in hydration, shine and strength to your hair.

I also have been loving the Loreal Paris Color Radiance Deep Purple Mask to enhance my hair tone deeply from time to time +Kerastase Blond Absolu Overnight Recovery Treatment to keep up with my blond highlights tones plus nourishment during the nightly routine. There are quite many of you who voted that don’t use an overnight hair treatment and haven’t tried the Kerastase Nutritive 8H Magic Night Serum by now. Here is why you need a hair mask in your haircare routine especially the overnight treatment.

  • infuse hair shafts with moisture
  • add a glossy shine to your hair
  • reduce hair breakage
  • tame frizz
  • reduce tangles and knots

Pre-Blowout + Heat Protectants & Finishers

I have been loving the Pureology Color Fanatic Multi-Tasking Leave-In Spray which is a multitasking, and a leave-in treatment to prime hair for heat, detangles, protects from damage and adds shine from root to tip. I use it regardless of how I style my hair. There is so much goodness in this product, it’s probably one of the best all-in-one hair products that you can use when you’re on the go. The Kerastase Defense Thermique Blow Dry Primer has been a formula I always love to keep handy when I use hot tools.

My on the go and trusted hair oil for protection+shine are the Moroccan Oil Hair Treatment + Kerastase Hair oils for many years now and recently I have been loving the Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oil Serum that is formulated with a blend of four precious hair oils that adds hydration and prevent breakage for anti-frizz shine. You can use both oils before, during and after styling the hair. They’re light and don’t weigh down the hair. For my super dry hair, Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil has been a good on-the-go hair oil but it’s slightly heavy so a little goes a long way.

Miscellaneous

There are a few things that I like to use on my hair from time to time to finish up my hair that includes the Oribe Rough Luxury Molding Wax that is a flexible, water-soluble wax that adds volumizing hold throughout my long layers, while lending softness and I like to use when I have my hair styled with a curler. I use the Pureology Style + Protect Soft Finish Hairspray that is designed for colour-treated hair. It has a fast drying time + lightweight with medium hold and without the crunchy feel. I have also been loving the Kerastase Fresh Affair Dry Shampoo for days I miss my hair wash and need them to look fresh. This formula is easy to use and makes hair look fresh and clean plus it makes hair smell so good.

Recently Moroccanoil has launched a Hair & Body Fragrance Mist that is amazing to keep hair smelling fresh. Plus this formula is enriched with Argan Oil, Vitamin E and Sun-Exposure Absorber to nourish, support natural moisture balance and protect hair from UV rays.

I don’t have a huge selection of hairbrushes or tools but one that I love is from Dyson – I use both brush and comb for my hair that is included in Corrale Straightener Special Gift Edition and they both work quite nicely on my hair plus the Hot Tools Gold curler in 1.5 inches is what I use to style my hair almost all the times and have never replaced with anything else since 20 years.
