Make Up For Ever | Matte Velvet Skin Foundation

Make Up For Ever is introducing the new Matte Velvet Skin (C$48 for 1.01 oz/ 30 mL) which is a breathable, life-like medium to full coverage foundation with a semi matte finish. This Foundation comes in 40 shades with an impressive colour range that covers every one with different skin undertones. I have always been really impressed with the Make Up For Ever’s foundations and the colour range. Although I’m not a huge fan of matte finish formulas for the fact that I have a very dry skin but, I definitely wanted to test and try this new addition. The New Matte Velvet Skin is a lightweight foundation that is oil-free and flexible so it moves with your skin. The formula has a buildable full coverage and great for normal, dry, combination and oily skin.
The texture is creamy and blends easily, once dried it literally feels like skin. It’s not transferable to your cloths nor moves from the skin. It really doesn’t cakes, flakes or fades – it stays fresh throughout the day.

These comes in a tube packaging where it makes more ideal to get fit in your makeup bag while it’s easy to dispense the product. Lasting power is very impressive and you really don’t need to set it with a setting powder or at least I didn’t need to. For application you do need to wear a good hydrating primer or a booster especially if you have a dry skin. Finding a right primer depending for your skin texture for this foundation is must. I used it different ways to wear this foundation to see how it would work on my dry skin or somehow if any matte formula would work on my dry skin. I found the formula is amazing especially during the hot and humid days. I had to prepare my skin with the Ultra HD Skin Booster reviewed here followed with the Step 1 Hydrating Primer which came with this foundation and probably one of the most hydrating primer that I found that works pretty good with the foundation. Both products really helps skin keep hydrated throughout the day so the foundation doesn’t feel dry, other than that the foundation is on the drier side (it should be since its matte) which I would say is perfect for some one with a normal to oily skin. Although Make Up For Ever Foundation brush works very well with this foundation but using a BeautyBlender makes the foundation look natural and sets the foundation beautifully.

For me the shade Y235 is a good match with a perfect yellow undertone, you can really see the difference of shades with different undertones and how it makes a huge difference once applied to the skin. But I have been mixing the Y230 and Y235 together and it creates such a perfect shade that looks like my skin.

I also found the Hydrating Primer is an amazing product for your foundation. It balances the skin’s texture and makes skin look smoother and more even while it gives the foundation a longer lasting power. These Step 1 Equalizer Primers comes in great range formulas to target your skin concerns and these primers are ideal for a better foundation application. Step 1 Hydrating and Nourishing Primers are my favorite but if you’re not sure where to start, I would highly recommend to try out the Hydrating Primer. The formula is light, it doesn’t feel sticky or heavy on skin yet it gives skin that extra hydrating it needs.

When it comes to foundation, applicators and tools are some what makes a huge difference. Make Up For Ever carries a great range of brushes and I personally have different foundation brush depending on foundation formulas. Mostly I prefer using a fluffy stapling brushs for my foundation. The brush I received along for the Matte Velvet Skin is the 108 Large Foundation Brush (C$43 each) with a flat and rounded shape and straight bristles which is made from 100% fibre. Foundation Brushes offer a high coverage application and evenly blends the foundation on the face. Typically I prefer a sponge but when I use a brush I end up smoothing it out with a large fluffy powder brush all over my face which literally gives that airbrush finish look. But with this one from Make Up For Ever seems to work better than any other foundation brushes. It blends the foundation evenly without leaving any strikes, while it deposits a good amount of foundation on skin. I used the brush to apply the Matte Velvet Skin and it does provide that high coverage

Overall I give the new Matte Velvet Skin Foundation formula a huge thumbs up. It has enough coverage to even out the skin and cover the under eye area and spots beautifully so there is no need of concealer. Lasting power is amazing and I loved how the stays on the skin fresh all day without transferring to your cloths. I really love the formula – although for this foundation I do need to prepare my skin with boosters and setting spray to get that extra hydration but it’s definitely worth it. I think for some one with a normal to oily skin this foundation would work better, but in terms of coverage, lasting power and for the fact that it looks like skin this foundation is a hit. The Step 1 Hydrating Primer worked really good with the foundation, it think no matter what type skin you have this primer works great. And the 108 Large Foundation brush is nice to have, its one of the best foundation brushes that I have used. I really like the way it performs, you can use your own foundation tool with the foundation, to get a similar result. You can find the New Matte Velvet Skin in store and online at Sephora and Makeupforever.ca.
