Hourglass Ambient Soft Glow Foundation Review

New from Hourglass is the Ambient Soft Glow Foundation ($58). I always get excited to find a new base from my favourite brands. This is a weightless foundation with a natural finish and medium coverage but is buildable, just the way I like to wear my base. The foundation is inspired by the brand’s iconic Ambient Lighting Collection. It offers a blurring soft focus to the skin to minimize the look of the skin’s imperfections and the light-diffusing pigments protect the skin against blue light at the same time. It’s one of those foundations that makes you ask yourself which foundation am I wearing today? seeing your complexion in the mirror gives the skin that flawless finish.

The finish is seamless but comes with an opaque texture that blends quite nicely over the skin with a brush with more coverage and a beauty sponge for a natural look. The finish is matte but there is a nice glow as well as it feels comfortable on the skin, meaning it doesn’t look or feel dry at all.

The colour range is quite impressive, there are 30 shades in the collection and here are the 3 shade swatches I am sharing today.

  • 4.5 is designed for light skin with cool undertones
  • 5 is designed for light skin with neutral undertones
  • 7 is designed for light-medium skin with warm undertones

I’ve been using this foundation over the past two weeks for testing purposes and its wear and found that you really don’t need it. It evens out my skin using one pump and gives medium coverage, as well as I really don’t need to spot treat any areas as it takes care of it. It doesn’t require lots of skin prep like other matte foundations do especially if you have dry skin and during the dry season but a nice hydrating primer will be a good idea.

The brand has launched a foundation brush that goes well along with the application of the foundation. It does help smooth out the finish of the foundation but any soft dome shape foundation brush will give you that nice natural effect. I personally love my flat foundation brush to get full coverage and beauty blender to get that natural finish.

I personally love the finish, and that diffused finish it offers. A little goes a while, just one pump covers the entire complexion and if you need a little more over you can layer the foundation on parts you need more coverage. I absolutely love and adore their products and have linked my favourite products from the brand below for you. You can find the review on them here.
