How to Update Your Spring/Summer Skin Care Routine

There are really only two times of the year that you need to switch your skin care routine and Spring is definitely one of the more important time, especially those with drier complexions. Warmer weather doesn’t mean to give up on you skin care items and rituals, you can stay with the rituals but transferring them to their lighter versions. This includes me with a dry skin all year-long and having a dry skin and change in temperatures and dry weather leaves me to swap out my thick weight skin care products or moisturizer to lighter texture formulas while not giving up on hydration. Yet throughout the year I have managed to bring up my skin’s hydration levels.  I have been introduced to several new skin care items for Spring season which I have been enjoying. Yet I run out fast through bottles of face wash (Double Cleansing – gel & oil cleansers), essences, masks and moisturizers.

A little background on my skin type and routine to refresh things up, I have a dry sensitive skin (which I would have consider normal if I have had lived in warmer place). I live in very cold climate in Ontario Canada which makes my skin feel and look dry for most part of the year. I’m on my late 30s and have managed to have minimal wrinkles at the moment (just around my eye area). I have always looked for more hydrated and anti aging products and I do use brightening treatments time to time especially during the winter months to keep freckles and dark spots brighten so I’m ready for Spring.

Cleansers + Makeup Removers

I love this step since it makes a huge difference in overall look of the skin. I do have a different cleansing routine for morning vs night because it really depends on what I cleanse. Mornings I’ve a much simple cleansing routine, right now I’m loving the Estee Lauder Nutritious Micro-Algea Pore Purifying Cleansing Jelly  – only for the days I feel there is a need for cleanser otherwise I just rinse my face. I absolutely love this cleanser for its soft gentle feel on skin and effectiveness. As well as the Fresh beauty’s Soy Face Cleanser is a great product and I feel I prefer the gel version of cleanser more. Nightly cleansing routine is much more important for me where I take off my makeup and impurities that build on my skin during the day. Double cleansing is a must for my nightly cleansing routine, which I have quite some amazing facial oil and balm cleansers I have discovered through out the years. The two cleansers I have been reaching out mostly for this time of year are the La Prairie Supreme Blam Cleanser which is a great way to take off my makeup as well as the Cleansing Oil Capsules from Eve Lom (more affordable option). Then I do follow-up with my other two cleansers to really cleanse out my skin.

For cleansing waters, there are quite some of them in the market but Bioderma H2O Micellar Water is a classic staple. They also come in the milky form which my dry skin love it the most. I recently got to try the Hydractiv Cleansing Milk from Jouviance which is as good as the Biotherma’s cleansing milk. The La Prairie Crystal Mecellar Water is one of the products I’m obsessed! I think its worth the splurge. I feel more confident to remove my makeup with Crystal Micellar Water the days I don’t get time for double cleansing and its my safe and trusted way out.

Essence + Pre-serum Lotions

Essences and Pre-Serum Lotions are quite amazing products especially for dry skin texture. You can layer them on top of each other or just chose one to really bring up the skin’s hydration levels. As much as dry skin texture need hydration I find oily skin texture also need that hydrated skin. And if I had to categorize them I would suggest essences for oily skin and pre-serum lotions for dry skin just for its texture. For this spring I have switched up my Platinum Rare Cellular Life-Lotion from La Prairie which carries a richer texture to the new Cle de Peau Beaute’s Hydro-Softening Lotion with super lightweight texture while it literally gives out the same hydration. As well as the new Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion with Sakura Ferment from Estee Lauder is an amazing product to level up your hydration game without feeling heavy. Fresh Beauty’s Kombucha Antioxidant Facial Treatment Essence is another amazing essence that remains classic for me.

Hydrating Moisturizers for Face & Eyes

Currently I’m swapping my thick and heavy moisturizer to its lighter version but I would still keep them richer in texture for the fact that we still have much drier days for the next couple of months. Some that I have been reaching out this season for my morning and nightly routine are the new Ole Hendrickson’s C-Rush Brightening Gel cream that is super light while keeps the skin well hydrated for 24 hours. It gets into the skin easily while still have enough texture to protect the skin from dryness, Glow Recipe’s Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream its lightweight while carries that nice soft cream like texture that keeps is soothed and hydrated and Fresh Beauty’s New Lotus Youth Preserve this one is light and has a super nice silky texture and feels so good on skin.

For under eye area you all know I take a step further to make my under eye area well hydrated and wrinkle free. Dry skin mean’s emphasize on fine lines and wrinkles. I love to layer my eye serum and creams during the fall/winter while for spring I go with a nice lightweight eye cream and a good hydrating serum is good enough for hot and humid summer days.  Cle de Peau Beaute’s Enhancing Eye Contour Cream Supreme have been one of the most eye creams that I have been reaching out recently during the winter months and a very good transition cream for spring season. Its lightweight but fully loaded with hydration that takes me through out the day. Another favorite for the season is the 24/7 EYE CREAM Light-Infused Replenishing Complex from Decorte, its been an amazing one for my night-time skin care rituals. As many of you know Skin Caviar from La Prairie is well-loved sincere line for me and I have been loving the Skin Caviar Lux Cream from the brand, I have been switching the skin Caviar Lux cream and Enhancing Eye Contour cream from Cle de Peau Beaute at this time of the year. I just feel like this one will stay with my during the summer time as well except those super hot and humid days. I definitely will get into lighter versions and serums once it get more warmer which you can find some of my favorite serums on this post

Masks

Weekend Masking days have been a rituals for my skin care routine, it could be as simple as using a sheet mask. But Masks always remain the same for me all year long. It definitely adds a nice hydration, scrubs away any death skin from the surface of my complexion and adds a nice glow. As a sleeping mask lover, I reach out to more lighter version of sleeping masks at this time of the year and at the moment I’m loving the Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask from Glow Recipe which is a glow in a jar. Laneige Water Sleeping Mask is yet another favorite at this time. Extra Plump Smooth Balm Mask from Dior is one of the masks I reach out all year long when I need that immediate glow. Another one that I absolutely love is the PHAT Glow Facial™ Mask from Ole Henriksen works like wonders especially when I need that extra step to look glowing, while you can literally use if before your makeup application.

Sunscreen

Although I tend to wear sun protection all year long but I try to use higher SPF and layer my sunscreens when it get warmer. I will have a full detailed post on this very soon where I can take you through in more details. But La Prairie Cellular Swiss UV Protection Veil Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is one of the best I have tried so far and definitely a classic for me. As well I layer my BB cream or CC cream tints during the day to effectively protect my skin. Perfecting Cushion Brightening Foundation from Sulwhasoo is a perfect one for every day with a more sheer coverage that looks super natural while evens out the skin.  As well as I love to wear my It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ SPF 40 for a full coverage look for the days I need more coverage when I’m out and about.

As a beauty blogger and skincare junky I get to test and try many of new items through out the season but this is my basic and regular routine for the next couple of months. I hope you have enjoyed reading this detailed post and have found a way for your spring skin care routine.
